Webinar series: Inside the EU’s Global Gateway for civil society
It’s become nearly impossible to discuss or read about the EU’s external action and partnerships without hearing about the Global Gateway (GG). However, understanding how it operates and what the expansion of Global Gateway means in practice remains a challenge for many civil society actors.
The Africa-Europe Civil Society Platform (CSEP) Working Group on Economic Development, Finance and Trade propose to organise several information sharing sessions on the Global Gateway to answer questions about how it is structured and implemented, as well as the implications the new approach has for international partnerships and civic space.
The sessions will be a space for civil society organisations from different regions to connect, exchange and increase their ability to:
•Participate in and monitor Global Gateway & Team Europe initiatives locally
•Engage in EU dialogue and processes at local level and provide feedback on local implementation of the Global Gateway to the EU
•Identify entry points and opportunities for joint advocacy, influencing and collaboration

Learn about the extent to which the EU takes human development and inequalities into consideration as part of Global Gateway implementation.
The webinar will focus on the gap between the EU’s stated objectives in development cooperation and the ambitions behind Global Gateway. We will reflect critically on the ways in which the EU has been trying to keep the focus on SDGs and the coherence with human development and equality-related commitments in Global Gateway.
- What is the Global Gateway 360° approach and how does it influence implementation?
- Is the Global Gateway and the financial tools for its implementation fit for supporting human development and fighting inequalities?
- What is our assessment of Global Gateway support to human development so far? What are the risks and opportunities for the future?
