At the official launch of the Africa-Europe Civil Society Platform on 9 October 2024, an Interim Steering Committee was established to steer the work for a 12-month period of time in line with the CSYEM advocacy strategy.
The members


Members were selected based on the following criteria:
- Balanced European and African representation
- Up to 20 members
- Gender balance
- Youth representation
- Capacity for broad outreach and representing an organisation with a wider constituency (e.g regional; membership-based…)
- Commitment and capacity to engage in the process more intensively for a period of time.
- Overall balance among thematic areas covered
- Experience with EU and/or AU
The main tasks for the ISC during its mandate include:
- Continue outreach to civil society and youth organisations in order to further develop an inclusive, open, non-institutional autonomous CS led platform to be a part of the EU-AU Civil Society and Youth Engagement Mechanism.
- Facilitate the establishment of the permanent coordination committee and lead institutional discussions with other stakeholders (EC, EEAS, AU, EESC, ECOSOC…)
- Lead the application to potential pilot projects
- Lead the process around the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial meeting
- Further develop mechanisms for ongoing two-way communication with African and European CSOs regarding the developments in the AU-EU partnership
